Substitutions and variations

  • Herbs – Top these baked green beans with some fresh chopped parsley or herbs like sage or thyme.
  • Spicy – These roasted green beans with garlic and parmesan have a little optional chili flakes for a hint of heat. If you like it spicy, add more to taste.
  • Oil – Instead of olive oil, avocado oil is a great alternative.
  • Onion – Another alternative to shallot is ½ a red onion or even some roughly chopped spring onion.
  • Cheese – these garlic parmesan green beans are topped with some freshly grated parmesan cheese that melts in the oven. Other cheeses to try are some grated mozzarella or crumbled feta cheese.
  • Vegan – To make this roasted green bean recipe vegan, use a vegan parmesan cheese alternative.

Storage

Place any leftover parmesan garlic green beans, in an airtight container or heavy duty ziplock bag. Store in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. They won’t be as crispy after being stored, but still taste delicious.

These green beans can also be frozen for about 4 months.

Another great green bean recipe to try is this Balsamic roasted green beans.

Top Tip

Use freshly grated parmesan cheese to this recipe for the best result. Let it melt in the oven until crispy and lightly golden brown. Adds great flavor and crunch to this oven baked green bean recipe. I also like to top the dish with some extra shaved parmesan for some extra cheesy flavor.

FAQ

Do I need to blanch green beans before roasting them?

No, for these parmesan roasted green beans, the fresh green beans are roasted in the oven without any need to blanch them first.

Can I roast frozen green beans?

Yes you can, just keep in mind that frozen or canned green beans contain a lot more water than fresh green beans, so the result won’t be the same. Frozen green beans will be a lot softer.
