Homemade healthy peanut butter chocolate granola is the perfect crunchy breakfast or snack! Packed with chocolate and peanut butter flavor and made with only 5 simple ingredients, and ready in under 30 minutes.
Making healthy homemade granola is fun, easy and uses everyday ingredients that you probably already have at home. I like to mix in some puffed brown rice, it makes the granola lighter and crispier. If you’d like to make the granola gluten-free, be sure to buy certified gluten free oats. For a vegan granola, use maple syrup instead of honey. Another vegan friendly granola is this Apple Pie Granola or this Air Fryer Granola.
This chocolate peanut butter granola tastes great served with greek yoghurt and some fresh berries, or with some cold milk. Or just to grab a handful straight out of the jar as a snack on the go.

Ingredients
- Rolled oats
- Puffed brown rice, or rice crisps or puffed quinoa.
- Cocoa powder, unsweetened and good quality for the best taste.
- Peanut butter, preferably natural peanut butter, crunchy works great.
- Honey or maple syrup to make this granola vegan.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- In a microwave safe bowl, add the honey and peanut butter, stir to combine and heat on high for 30 seconds.
- To the bowl with the melted peanut butter and honey, add the remaining ingredients and stir well. Spread out the granola on the prepared baking sheet. For large clusters of granola, keep it chunky, otherwise separate the mixture while spreading it out.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes depending on your oven. Stir after 5 minutes and check again at the 10 minute mark. Let cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.
The granola will become a little crisper when it cools down. Once it is cooled completely, store it in an air tight container. I love to serve this granola over some creamy yoghurt or as a topping to overnight oats or chia pudding.
Hint: Make sure you bake the granola long enough to become crispy, but not burnt. So watch it carefully for the last couple of minutes.
Substitutions and variations
- Nuts – Add some crunchy chopped nuts like pecans, almonds or walnuts.
- Puffed brown rice – it can also be replaces with rice crisps or puffed quinoa.
- Ad-ins – When the peanut butter chocolate granola is baked and cooled down, some extras can be mixed in. Some great options are dried strawberries, raisins or other dried fruit tastes great! Why not add some chocolate chips for extra chocolate flavor.
- Gluten-free – Oats are naturally gluten-free, but can contain traces of gluten. To ensure this healthy chocolate granola is gluten-free, only use certified gluten-free rolled oats.

Storage
Store this homemade chocolate peanut butter granola in an airtight container for up to 1 week. It might loose a little of the original crunch when stored for more then a week, but still tastes just as great.
You can also freeze this chocolate granola for up to 2-3 months. Add the cooled granola to a ziplock bag, then push out as much air as possible.
Take out the granola from the freezer and let it defrost in room temperature before serving. After being frozen, the homemade granola won’t be as crunchy. To crisp it up again, bake it for a little in the oven until it is crunchy. Be careful not to burn the granola, it just needs to dry out.
