Apple and cinnamon is one of my favourite combinations and they tastes amazing in this granola. It Making granola is fun, easy and uses everyday pantry ingredients. When you make your own granola, you can mix and match ingredients to suit your tastebuds. And there are no additives or strange ingredients.
This recipe just requires a few, healthy ingredients and is ready in just 30 minutes. Deliciously crunchy and naturally sweetened with dates that also gives this granola a hint of caramel flavour. It is gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, oil free and vegan!

Ingredients
Making this Apple cinnamon granola recipe is very easy, all you need are a few basic ingredients.

- Dates, sweetens this granola and ads a wonderful caramel flavour.
- Apple, Use a sweet apple like gala.
- Coconut oil, melted
- Vanilla extract, or vanilla bean powder can also be used.
- Rolled oats, also known as old fashion oats. Use an oat that is robust in character for a chunky and crunchy granola.
- Pecans, adds a great crunch and flavour to this apple granola. Other nuts like almonds or walnuts.(or walnuts or almonds)
- Cinnamon, gives this apple pie granola a great flavor. Cinnamon goes so well with the apple.
- Salt, just a little enhances the flavour.

Instructions
Making homemade apple pie granola is easy, just follow along with the step-by-step photos below.

Add the dates, chopped apple, coconut oil and vanilla extract in a food processor. Process until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.
Add all the dry ingredients in a bowl and stir.
Stir in the date mixture until well combined.
Pour the granola on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and spread in an even layer. Bake until golden and crispy.
The granola will become a little crisper when it cools down. Once it is cooled completely, store it in an air tight container. I love to serve this granola over some creamy yoghurt or as a topping to overnight oats or chia pudding.
Hint: Make sure you bake the granola long enough to become crispy, but not burnt. So watch it carefully for the last couple of minutes.
Substitutions and Variations
- Nuts – This apple granola is studded with crunchy pecans, but other nuts can also be used. Almonds or walnuts also are great options. For an allergy friendly granola use sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds.
- Ad-ins – When the apple pie granola is baked and cooled down, some extras can be mixed in. My favourites are cranberries, raisins or other dried fruit tastes great!
- Gluten-free – Oats are naturally gluten-free, but can contain traces of gluten. To ensure this apple pie baked oats are gluten-free, only use certified gluten-free oats.

Storage
Store this homemade apple cinnamon granola in an airtight container for up to 1 week. It might get a little softer when stored for awhile but still tastes just as great.
You can also freeze this apple granola for around 2 months. Fill the granola in a ziplock bag and push out as much air as possible. Let the granola defrost in room temperature before serving. It won’t be as crunchy as when you first make, it but still good. To crisp it up again, bake it for a little in the oven until it is crunchy again.
How to serve Apple Pie Granola
- This crunchy granola tastes great with some creamy yoghurt, fresh apple slices and a drizzle of maple syrup.
- Serve it with ice cold milk of your choice, for a vegan alternative unsweetened almond milk tastes great.
- Use this granola as a crunchy topping to chia pudding, overnight oats, pancakes, muffins etc.
Top tip
Feel free to customise this apple pie granola with some of your favourite ingredients. Add some seeds for extra crunch and nutrients, some dried fruits for extra sweetnesses and a variety of nuts to taste.
FAQ
The granola needs to dry out properly to get a crunchy texture. Don’t bake in too hot of a temperature and make sure to stir well and keep the granola in one even layer.
Granola and muesli have similar ingredients and therefore similar health benefits. The big difference is the texture. Granola is baked and often has added sweeteners and muesli usually doesn’t. Muesli is also unbaked.
Store bought granola can often contain a lot of sugar and added fat. When you make homemade granola, what goes in it, is up to you! This apple granola is naturally sweetened with dates and apple and just a little coconut oil for crunch.

- ½ Cup (100g) firmly packed pitted dates
- 1 (140g) apple peeled, cored and roughly chopped
- 3 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Cups (180g) rolled oats
- 1 Cup (100g) pecans, chopped (or walnuts or almonds)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 160C (325F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add the dates, chopped apple, coconut oil and vanilla extract in a food processor. Process until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed. It's ok with a few small pieces of apples and dates, but the concisely needs to be creamy.
