Healthy Apple Pie Jam

October 11, 2019 by Helena Leave a Comment

Apple Pie Chia Jam is a heathy alternative to regular sugar filled jam. Filled with warming spices and sweet apples. Perfect topping on oatmeal, yoghurt, pancakes and toast. A big jar of this chia jam is the new breakfast hero in our house.

It is packed full of protein, fibre and antioxidants and it tastes great! Naturally sweetened with a little honey or maple syrup. This recipe makes a small batch of jam that will keep in the fridge for about a week, by that time it is usually all gone at our hose and time to make some more!

This apple pie jam recipe is easy to make, all you need are a few simple ingredients:

  • Apples, peeled and chopped (I used gala)
  • Water
  • Apple pie spice or cinnamon
  • Chia seeds
  • Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions to make this jam:

  1. Add the apples to a pan with the water and cinnamon. Bring to a boil while stirring and then lover to simmer for 5-10 minutes, stir occasionally. If it start looking dry, add a little more water.
  2. Once the apples are soft, take the pan off the heat and stir in the chia seeds. Taste it and add honey or maple syrup if desired, depending on how sweet your apples are.
  3. Mash the apples using a fork to a chunky consistency and let cool in the pan for 15 minutes. The jam will thicken while it cools. Store the apple pie chia jam in a airtight container in the fridge for about one week. Enjoy!
