Substitutions and Variations
- Gluten-free – Oats are naturally gluten-free, but can contain traces of gluten from being processed. To ensure this strawberry and cream overnight oats recipe is gluten-free, buy only certified gluten-free oats. They can usually be found in the gluten-free section at your local grocery store.
- Protein – Stir in ¼ cup protein powder for some extra added protein in these overnight oats. Vanilla or strawberry are some good flavors, chocolate is also a nice flavor addition. If your protein powder is very sweet, reduce or omit the maple syrup.
- Berries – This overnight oats recipe uses strawberries, but other berries also work. Some good options are blueberries, raspberries or a mix of berries like in this Berry cheesecake overnight oats recipe.
- Sweetness – Depending on the sweetness of the banana and strawberries, add some extra maple syrup to taste. Some other options to maple syrup is agave syrup, brown sugar or coconut sugar. Honey can also be used for a non vegan breakfast.
- Vegan – For vegan strawberry banana overnight oats recipe, use a plant-based milk and yoghurt.
- Nut butter – Stir in, or top with a little nut butter of choice for some extra protein. Use store bough or why not try this homemade Strawberry cashew butter.
- No fresh strawberries? No problem, use frozen strawberries or strawberry jam. Try this healthy strawberry chia jam or these Roasted strawberries.

Storage
This Strawberry banana overnight oats makes a great meal-prep breakfast. It can be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge. If you are planning to store them for many days, wait with adding the toppings until serving to keep them fresh. After a few days in the fridge, the overnight oats will have thicker consistency because the rolled oats will continue to soak up liquid as it sits. If needed, stir in a little extra milk before serving.
Overnight oats do not freeze well, so I don’t recommend this.
Top Tip
If you want extra strawberry flavor and a sweeter breakfast, use strawberry yoghurt in place of greek yoghurt. Or add a layer of strawberry jam, like this strawberry chia jam, in the bottom of the glasses or jars.

FAQ
Yes, if strawberries aren’t in season, frozen works great! They are also a great budget friendly option to fresh strawberries.
