Baked Chai Donuts

November 25, 2018 by Helena Leave a Comment

Are you a donut lover? These Baked Chai Donuts are soft, fluffy and filled with warming chai spices and a crunchy cinnamon sugar exterior. Baking your donuts makes them healthier then your deep fried donuts and the texture is more cake like, I prefer them this way. They are really easy to make and the best thing, from the mixing bowl to your mouth in 30 minutes!

I just bought a donut pan and it was love at first bake! Now I am experimenting with all kind of flavors and textures. So hope you are ready for more baked donuts recipes to come!

Are baked chai donuts as good as fried donuts?

Fried donuts are delicious, but full of fat! Baked donuts are more cake-like and not at all greasy like fried donuts. I really like the texture and the crunchy cinnamon sugar coating.

How do I get perfectly even baked donuts?

Place the donut batter in a ziplock bag or pastry bag and and cut a small hole in one corner. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling them half way. Bake the donuts and let them cool in the pan before removing them.

Ingredients for these Baked Chai Donuts:

Donuts

  • All purpose flour
  • Light brown sugar
  • Baking powder and baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • Egg, I use organic
  • Cinnamon, cardamon and ginger
  • Vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
  • Greek yoghurt, full fat and unsweetened
  • Vegetable oil
  • Strong brewed chai tea at room temperature

Cinnamon sugar coating:

  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Butter

Instructions:

Preheat the oven and grease your donut pan.

Combine the dry ingredients (flour to pinch of salt) in a bowl and the wet ingredients in a separate bowl.

Pour the wet ingredients to the dry and mix just to combine, do not over mix or your donuts will be dense. The batter will be thick and its ok if you still have small lumps.

Pour the batter in a ziplock bag and cut a small hole in one corner. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling them half way. Bake the donuts and let them cool in the pan before removing them.

Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Brush the donuts with the melted butter and then roll them in the cinnamon sugar mix. Enjoy!
