These Roasted figs with honey are soft, juicy, and slightly caramelized. They are perfect for an easy dessert, breakfast topping, or a delicious side to a cheese board. Super fast and easy to make with only two ingredients.

Fresh figs are delicious on their own, but roasting them takes the flavor to another level. The heat softens the fruit and also concentrates the natural sugars and flavor, and the honey creates a delicious syrup.
This recipe is also super fast and easy to make with only two ingredients. Just slice the figs in half, drizzle with honey, and let the oven do the rest of the work. Roasting fruit is a wonderful way to bring out the natural sweetness, just like my honey roasted peaches, these Roasted strawberries or these delicious late summer Roasted Plums.

How to Choose the Best Figs
Both green and dark purple figs are delicious when roasted with honey. So choose the one that looks best at the store.
The key to delicious roasted figs, is using good-quality, ripe fruit. Choose figs that are fragrant and slightly soft to the touch. Look for figs with plump skin and a little give when gently squeezed. Avoid fruit that mushy, or leaking liquid.
Substitutions and Variations
- Honey: There are different kinds of honey. Mild honey lets the natural flavor of the figs shine, while a more floral honey adds a different flavor. Try orange blossom honey for a light citrusy note or a darker honey for a deeper flavor. Use your favourite!
- Herbs: Add few sprigs of fresh thyme for a savoury and subtle herbal flavor that pairs beautifully with figs.
- Citrus: A little freshly grated lemon zest balances the sweetness and gives the figs a fresh finish. Some orange zest or a little orange juice mixed in with the honey also tastes great.
- Spice: Ad some warming spice with a small pinch of ground cinnamon. This is a great flavor combo when serving the figs for breakfast with greek yogurt or oatmeal.
- Crunch: Top with some chopped toasted nuts like walnuts, almonds, or pistachios over the roasted figs just before.
- Savoury: Add some goat cheese or feta with the figs before roasting. This makes a wonderful appetiser served with some bread. Also see my serving suggestions below for more ideas.
- Vegan: Replace the honey with maple syrup for a vegan roasted figs recipe.

How to Serve Roasted Figs
These honey roasted figs can be served sweet, or savory. Their soft texture and sweet, syrupy juices make them perfect for breakfast, dessert, or as an easy appetizer. Here are some of my favorite ways to serve them:
- With yogurt: Spoon the figs and their juices over thick Greek yogurt for a delicious breakfast or healthy dessert. Top with some toasted walnuts for crunch or some homemade granola like this Maple Pecan Granola.
- Oatmeal: Serve the roasted figs over warm oatmeal like this Banana Cinnamon Oatmeal or overnight oats.
- With cheese: Serve the figs with a cheese board, or add some goat cheese or feta cheese to roast alongside the figs in the oven. Add toasted bread or crackers for a simple appetizer.
- On toast: Spread ricotta or cream cheese over toasted sourdough and top with the roasted figs and their juices. Sprinkle over some crunchy nuts like pistachios or walnuts.
- Dessert: Serve the figs warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an easy and delicious dessert.
- With pancakes or waffles: Serve the roasted figs instead of jam or fruit topping with your favorit pancakes, waffles, or French toast for a great breakfast.
Storage
Allow the roasted figs to cool down to room temperature, then place them and the juices in an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 3 days. They can be served cold straight out of the fridge or reheat in the microwave on low heat until just warmed through.
The figs can also be frozen, but the texture will change. After defrosting the figs will be mushier and not hold their shape, but still taste delicious. Let the figs cool completely, then place them in a freezer-safe container with their honey juices. Freeze for up to 2 months.

Top Tip for the Perfect Roasted Figs
- Use ripe figs: They should be ripe, but still a little firm to the touch. Over ripe figs will fall apart when roasted, so choose fruit that is soft, but still holds its shape.
- The honey: Drizzle a generous amount of good quality honey over the figs to make a delicious syrup as the figs roast.
- Don’t over cook the figs: The figs soften quickly, and the roasting time will vary depending on the size, and ripeness of the fruit. Remove when tender and juicy, with lightly caramelized edges, but still holding their shape.

FAQ

No, figs do not need to be peeled. The skin is edible and helps the fruit hold its shape when roasted.
