Substitutions and variations
- Vegan – Use a plant based milk, like almond or oat milk. I always use unsweetened.
- Peaches – Instead of peaches, other stone fruit like nectarines or apricots, can be used.
- Oats – Add a few tablespoons of oat flour to the smoothie before blending or a more filling smoothie.
- Protein – For a protein packed smoothie, add a little of your favourite protein powder to the blender. You might have to add a little extra liquid if it gets too thick.

Equipment
Use a high power blender to give this smoothie a smooth and creamy consistency. Another tip is use chopped frozen fruit is your blender is that powerful.
Storage
Smoothies always tastes best when served immediately. When it sits, it will defrost and become a little thinner, but still have the same delicious flavor.
My top tip for storing smoothies in the fridge are:
- Store it in a glass container with an airtight lid.
- Fill the container to the very top! This will prevent air to enter and with that unwanted oxidation that will affect the nutrients and also the color of your smoothies.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice to your smoothie, this will help keep it fresh and tasty for the next day.
This Strawberry banana apple smoothie can be stored in the fridge for 1-2 days if stored correctly. You will need to stir it well since the smoothie will separate when stored. Always smell your smoothie to make sure it is still fresh before drinking.
Top tip
Let the frozen banana and strawberries defrost for a few minutes before blending, it will make it easier for the mixer to blend. Scrape down the sides as needed and add a little extra milk if desired.
FAQ
If replacing the milk with water, your smoothie will have a less creamy consistency.
Yes, use a plant-based yoghurt and milk for a dairy free and vegan smoothie.
This strawberry banana apple smoothie uses frozen fruit so there is no need to add ice to make it cold. If you were using fresh fruit, ice is a good way of making it cold and thicker.
