Ingredients
The ingredients for this Watermelon Smoothie are really simple, you probably have most of it at home. For the full ingredient measurements, scroll down to view the recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Banana, sliced and frozen.
- Kiwi, peeled and chopped
- Baby spinach, fresh or frozen
- Vanilla yoghurt, use vegan yogurt for a vegan smoothie
- Strawberries, frozen, if they are big, chop them up first to help create a smooth consistency
- Watermelon, chopped in chunks
Instructions
Making this healthy watermelon smoothie is really easy. Make it either layered like in the photos, or blend all the ingredients together.
For the full written instructions, see the recipe card at the bottom.
Green layer
Add the banana, kiwi and spinach to a high speed blender and blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Pour in 2 tall glasses. Top with the yoghurt and place in the fridge while you make the next layer.
Red layer
Add the frozen strawberries and watermelon chunks to a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed. Carefully pour into the glasses with the kiwi and yoghurt layers and serve immediately.
Hint, All the ingredients can also be added to the blender to make a non layered smoothie. The taste will be the same but it won’t have the watermelon layer look.
Storage
Smoothies always taste best when served immediately. But you can also keep any leftovers in the fridge for 1-2 days.
My top tips for keeping a smoothie fresh for longer, is to store it in a glass container with an airtight lid or other airtight container. Try to fill the container with the smoothie to the very top! Since this watermelon smoothie contains banana, it will go a little brown when stored. Another option is to add a squeeze of lemon or orange juice to the smoothie, the acid will help keep it fresh for the next day. Always smell and taste any stored smoothie before drinking, to make sure it is still fresh.
I love smoothies in the summer but I also have them in the winter. One of my favourites in the fall is this Easy Apple Pie Smoothie (gluten-free and vegan) Full of apple flavour and warming spices.
